Palestine Talks

  • Online via Zoom from Adelaide, SA, 5000 (map)

Topic - is a one state solution possible for Palestine-Israel?

When Michael visited Palestine-Israel in 2020 he was confronted by disturbing realities:  the sick nature of Israeli society; the lack of unity or clear purpose among Palestinians; and the impossibility of any two state solution.  He concluded there is no two state configuration which would offer the sort of justice for Palestinians which could in turn deliver a sustainable peace.  Following others, it crystalised in his mind that peace can only be achieved through one democratic state - a one state solution.  Is this realistic?  Would it represent a just outcome?  How can it be achieved?  What can the international friends of Palestine do to advance this outcome?

Michael Wood

Michael is a former career diplomat in the Australian foreign service, where he served overseas in Mexico, India, Singapore as Deputy High Commissioner and Chicago as Consul General.  When he left government in 2018 he was finally free to express his views on Palestine-Israel and to join other friends of Palestine around the world actively advocating a just resolution to the greatest and most enduring injustice of our age.  He was elected Chair of the Friends of Palestine WA in 2020, and continues to serve as producer of the Youtube channel Jafar Ramini - Palestinian.  He visited Palestine-Israel in 2020 and came away with indelible impressions of the evil done in the name of Zionism, and the resourcefulness of Palestinians.
